What Are Your Thoughts On This??

I live in MD and recently a bill has been proposed that will have the public school system pay for the physical, occupational and speech therapies of special education students who are currently being homeschooled. I am curious as to what others…both in the special ed and home school community think.
As the mother of an autistic child, and someone who has done a fair amount of parent’s advocate work, I generally discourage most families from homeschooling because in doing so they will loose all the ancillary therapy services they can get from the public schools. Few families are in a financial position to pay for these from private sources and insurance coverage for them is spotty. Also, special education budgets shrink every year, so the addtional cost is a factor.
As a homeschooler (of my other child) I feel that until the schools are willing to let my daughter join the drama club or play school sponsered sports, then no one group should be given special treatment.

If Your Vain – How Do You Cope With Having Physical Imperfections, Or Injuries That Can’t Be Fixed ?

im 30 now have ptsd and bpd , waiting for group therapy, living alone in a one bedroom apartment on disability, i own nothing save an old computer.
endured a miserable , misfortunate life so far and are trying now to work towards my personal goals and ambitions, even at my disadvantages , with a criminal, psychiatric record , i know it will be hard , but my goals are my goals , to emigrate from britain with a decent paying computer job.
and still i hate to be felt sorry for and treated like a charity case- im telling you, i hate that.
i have some physical injuries and imperfections at the moment that are pending , unsure whether they can be fixed or not.
and its torment because im a vain perfectionist.
a crooked little finger, that droops over due to an injury years back, a splint DIDNT straighten it, it doops over – i can still use it normally, but im unhappy about how it looks , so im waiting for a 2nd opinion.
damaged nerves in my knuckle on my right hand , through punching a brick wall years ago, i can use it normally, but it hurts for example to hit a punch bag lightly , i was told NOTHING can be done with the damaged nerves – im waiting for a 2nd opinion.
cracked , fissured , torn skin covering the head of my penis, the sexual health clinic said test were clear, the dermatologist said there was NO skin disorder , but admitted the skin was cracked and fissured, they to a swab – it came back clear, the dermatologist said she didnt no what caused the cracked skin or whether it could be cleared or not, they took photos for another opinion in London, to be sent there , the dermatologist reported back and said it looked normal for me – i said i still wasnt happy and wanted a 3rd opinion , so now im waiting to see a professor.
i was told the cracked skin could be due to excessive masturbation over 12 times everyday for as long as i can remember.
there not sore, or cut or bruised or open wounds , its just the skin is simply cracked and torn.
im getting pulling pains and shooting pains recently in my pelvis to, especially if i masturbate.
i have an injured left ankle due to a bad sprain years ago when i ran accross a meadow, ive torn the ligaments, the MR scan pictures came back unclear , i was told i will need my ankle operated on – the ankle it very weak to, easily twists and i fall over.
i only have an average sized penis , just about 6 inch, and the head of my penis is NOT a big mushroom shaped like most guys ive seen pictures of.
how can i cope with these physical imperfections that may or may not be able to be fixed ?

Then I plan on using military benefits to obtain a further education in physical therapy/massage/sports medicine/ or something along those lines, i havent decided. During this time I will continue to train hard in martial arts and keep plugging my “book”.
Eveuntually…..with money saved up….lots of blood, sweat, and tears……I will be well on my way and use these skills to translate into a martial arts school.

How Do You Know If You Have Fluid In Your Knees?

I went to the doctor for the pain and I thought that it was fluid in my knees, but she never mentioned that. She actually didn’t say what it was, she just prescribed physical therapy. I figured that since she’s the doctor she knows what she’s doing, but know a friend that works in that clinic said that if I feel that the doc didn’t make a good judgement that I should get a second opinion elsewhere because they tend to make mistakes there. Now I don’t know what to do. It feels wrong to go against doctors order’s. I have therapy on the 11th should I just wait and see what the therapist says?
Thank you for your opinions!!

When Asked About Your Current Salary, How Do You Answer?

I am currently sitting in a nowhere position and have a phone interview on Monday. I have a specific range that I am looking for and have relavant experience for this job. However, I am currently in a position that is not paying anywhere close to what I want- I took it as it was close to home for my kids and I had knee surgery and needed time to get to doctor and physical therapy appointments- besides it was a job with benefits. I am looking at a senior accountant/assistant controller position for a large company- I currently sit in a small company as a financial analyst that does nothing more than glorified data entry and administrative crap.
If asked about what I am making now vs. what I am looking for I get the what makes you think that you deserve that type of pay in comparison to what you make now? I do have the experience and education plus I have earned that before- but no one looks past that….
How do you handle this?

Bracelets ‘useless’ in arthritis
Magnetic wrist strap
Magnetic devices have been used for arthritis for centuries
Copper bracelets and magnetic wrist straps are useless for relieving pain in people with arthritis, say University of York researchers.
In the first tightly controlled trial to look at both alternative therapies, there was no benefit to their use for pain or stiffness.
All 45 patients tested a copper bracelet, two different magnetic wrist straps, and a demagnetised version.
An arthritis charity said people should not waste their money on the therapies.
Study leader Stewart Richmond, a research fellow in the Department of Health Sciences, said there had only been one other randomised controlled trial – comparing the treatment with placebo – on copper bracelets and that was done in the 1970s.
Although there is a big public appetite for non-drug treatments from arthritis patients, we would not encourage them to spend a lot of money on products for which there is very little scientific evidence

The market – particularly in magnetic devices which can cost £25 and £65 for the wrist straps – is worth billions of dollars worldwide.
In the trial, 45 people aged 50 or over, who were all diagnosed as suffering from osteoarthritis wore each of the four devices in a random order over a 16-week period.
They were all ineffective in terms of pain, stiffness and physical function, the researchers reported in the journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine.
Placebo effect
“It appears that any perceived benefit obtained from wearing a magnetic or copper bracelet can be attributed to psychological placebo effects,” said Mr Richmond.
“People tend to buy them when they are in a lot of pain, then when the pain eases off over time they attribute this to the device.
“However, our findings suggest that such devices have no real advantage over placebo wrist straps that are not magnetic and do not contain copper.”
He said the marketing of the devices was often to vulnerable elderly people.
Jane Tadman from the Arthritis Research Campaign said although many people with arthritis wore copper bracelets, there was no current research that supports their use.
“Although there is a big public appetite for non-drug treatments from arthritis patients, we would not encourage them to spend a lot of money on products for which there is very little scientific evidence,” she added.
The charity is in the process of compiling a report on the effectiveness of complementary therapies and arthritis.
