Question by wallabie22: physical therapy/medication?
I have had lower abdominal/groin pain and a funny feeling in my back for over a year now. I have had tons of tests all showing nothing wrong. I really believe this to be ibs which i was diagnosed with or a nerve issue in my back. my pain management specialist wants me to take elavil which i am nervous about becasue of the weight gain. I did get a referral for physical therapy. could physical therapy help this type of pain? I just want to get rid of the pain and not be cracked out on pain pills!

Best answer:

Answer by Amanda
Physical therapy may be able to help. If all the x-rays/other tests have not shown anything, you may have a soft tissue injury (like muscles, ligaments, etc.) They will evaluate you and trest whatever they find. It is much better than having to be on multiple pain meds!

Best answer:

Answer by mistify
You can get a list of all the schools that are accredited for the PT program by going to www.apta.org You’ll have to talk to an admissions counselor at that school to determine if your credits will transfer. Then they can also give you specifics as to whether your courses you’ve taken will also meet that school’s prerequisites for the graduate school (assuming you choose to finish your BS at the same school where you hope to go to grad school)

Question by Hernandez1313: How do I become a Physical Therapist with a business degree?
What do you major in in college if you want to be a physical therapist? I am 6 classes shy of having a bachelors degree in business management but I have recently decided I want to do physical therapy. Not to mention, my gpa is no where good enough to get in to a masters physical therapy program right now. What should I do? take classes to be a PT assistant? or just take the required classes to get into a masters program ? and what would those classes be? please help

Best answer:

Answer by Nat
Luckily for us, Physical Therapy schools love students that have diverse bachelors degrees, like business management (you) and marketing/design (me). First, continue finishing up your bachelors degree. Since you have six classes left of that, I would advise you to spread out those six classes into two semsters, and take a few physical therapy prereq. courses in conjuction with finishing your undergrad. There are several prereq. courses needed for physical therapy, but it really depends on the school in particular you are looking for. Most colleges want to see 1 year of general chemistry, 1 year of physics, 1 year of anatomy/physiology, and 1 semester of stats. Don’t take classes to become a PT assistant — that would be taking a huge step down since you’re so close to having a bachelors degree. It would also save you time because it is a 2 year A.A degree to become a PT assistant, while it would only take you 1 year of prereqs in order to get into a physical therapy school, which would give you either a masters or doctorate degree. And don’t worry about your bachelors gpa too much. The most important part is your prereq gpa — make sure you get B’s or higher in all science prereq courses. Also, volunteer and/or work in a physical therapy setting. It may seem like a lot to take in, but just take one step at a time and before you know it, you’ll be ready to apply to your dream graduate school. Good luck!! Here is a list of all physical therapy schools in the US:

Question by : Do I need a highschool diploma to get an education towards a career in physical therapy?
I want to go back to school to study for Physical Therapy or Physical Therapy Assistant, but I only have a GED will my lack of a HS Diploma impede my chances at higher learning? Also I live in Las Vegas Nevada.

Best answer:

Answer by by the sea
When a career necessitates a degree (such as PT does), what matters is that you have the college degree. If you can get that, no one cares how (or if) you finished high school. Contrary to popular thought, you don’t even need a high school diploma/GED to be admitted to community colleges (and many state universities, too)….even if you are well passed the high school age.

Princess….again…you don’t need a high school diploma or GED to be admitted to colleges/universities! What they care about are your SAT/ACT scores…not whether or not you have a diploma or GED…regarding that though…….it really depends on the college or university you are applying to. Each sets its own enrollment policies. Some require a high school diploma or GED certificate, while others may not depending on your academic history. If you are having trouble being accepted, consider taking a few courses at a local community college. They usually have less rigid entrance requirements, and many, many colleges and universities will accept you with good grades

Answer by Mary
PTA is a great career with lots of job opportunites. The average pay is 40, 000 but it varies with location and speciality. The con is that you can not use it as a stepping stone to becoming a PT. You will never be a manager or a supervisior. Sr. PTA is as far as you can go. Were I work we have a 50/50 split PT/PTA. I can not do my job without the PTAs that I work with. They are essential in providing PT care.
