Do I need a PT license or as an owner, I can hire/use license of someone? What legal document or permit do I need? I’m having a clinic in LA, CA.

Hi there and thanks for the help.
If I want to open a physical therapy place, is it required that me as the owner should be a professional or it is sufficient to hire one?

You as the owner do not have to be a registered physical therapist. Just as you don’t need to be a chef to open a restaurant. Of course, you have to hire qualified employees if you want a viable business.

I have worked in a therapy clinic so I understand the business but I want to be clear about owning a clinic and just hiring some therapist.

Bottom Line Answer: YES
Option 1: You own the practice and hire therapist to work for you. You do all the advertising, scheduling, accounting, payroll, taxes, etc.
Option 2: You own the practice and rent out space to therapist. You may also give them the option of you doing all their books and scheduling for a fee.
Option 3: Go into business with several therapist as partners. Their part is the therapy work, your part is the administrative side of the business. Both sides are needed and this allows for each to focus on their strenghts and to not be burdened down doing a side of the business they may down right hate.

I want to own my own physical therapy clinic and maybe expand later. I’m applying to DPT programs starting may ’09. How should I go about achieving this goal? Anyone with personal experience?
