What classes must I take before entering college if I want to be a physical therapy major?

Question by Sophie: What classes must I take before entering college if I want to be a physical therapy major?
Right now I’m concluding my freshman year, and I feel like I need to be taking more classes. What classes are usually required before entering college as a physical therapy major?

Best answer:

Answer by Mary
Since PT is a graduate degree, high school classes do not really matter. You want to take math and science so you are prepared for college. You also need to learn study skills on how to study and take test.

Here is some information on becoming a PT

Should I pursue occupational therapy or economics as a major?

Question by : Should I pursue occupational therapy or economics as a major?
My grandpa says that occupational therapy or physical therapy is a very good career and major because there are a lot of people who are sick and getting old in the USA and Canada. He says economics is very generic and that everyone majors in it hoping to land a career in business. He says with occupational therapy once you graduate you will get a job and get a salary of 100,000. With an Econ degree it’s iffy in this job market. What do you guys think?

Best answer:

Answer by DaniBaje
You need to attend grad school to work as an occupational therapist. You need a Masters in Occupational Therapy. You will not have a starting salary of 100,000.
It is a good and steady field however.

Is it better to major in Physical Therapy or a broader career field like health science?

Question by joel: Is it better to major in Physical Therapy or a broader career field like health science?
I’m in my 2nd semester in a community college. I’m planning to transfer to a 4 year University after my 2nd year. Right now i’m taking pre-requisite classes for physical therapy but i wanted to know if its better to major in Health Science and then later go to physical therapy? Or major in Physical Therapy and become a physical therapist?

Best answer:

Answer by Anna P
Do you like physical therapy? It is a field that is still growing, so you would be able to find a job. A broad major like health sciences will ensure that you have to go to graduate school, but will also give you more options since PT is a graduate program. Have you spoken to a counselor about this? You have another year of general education requirements and basic sciences anyway. Good luck.

UCSB Physiology, UCD NPB, or UCSD animal physiology/anatomy major for Physical Therapy career?

Question by kthxk: UCSB Physiology, UCD NPB, or UCSD animal physiology/anatomy major for Physical Therapy career?
For undergrad school, assuming I get in all three of these UC’s, I would have a dilemma of choosing Physiology, neuroscience, physiology, and behavior, or animal physiology or the anatomy major to prepare for Physical therapy grad school. I am not sure which one is best as I think some majors will require pointless classes that would not apply to my career. Help!

Best answer:

Answer by dentalchick2016
make sure you pick a major because you like it, not for the sole purpose of preparing you for grad school….I mean, what if you didnt get into your chosen grad school, would you be happy to make a living w/ your chosen undergrad degree? I’m preparing for dental school, while at first I jumped on the band wagon and chose to major in biology and knowing my passion for music I decided that I should major in music for my plan B, not biology, should dental school not work, after all the committee really doesn’t care what you major in. I hope that helps in some way!
