Does anyone know of a good inpatient pain management program?
Posted by admin in Clinic Management on May 14, 2012
Question by Susan, too much pain, too long: Does anyone know of a good inpatient pain management program?
I had a botched back surgery 12 years ago. I have been seeing a pain management specialist for 10 years and I have an implanted pump with a catheter that delivers medication directly into my spine in the area of the nerves that are damaged. I have completely lost the ability to have a life and I know that I need physical therapy and physchological counseling but in the small town I live in they are not available and I can’t drive myself back and forth from the closest city. Any one know of a place in Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennesee, and other states close to these? These would be closest to home but I am willing to go anywhere necesssary. I need an inpatient program because I will be there alone. None of my family can rearrange things in order to be with me, but I need help now. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Question by miscottmorg: Does anyone know of any pain management clinics in Baton Rouge or surrounding area take self pay patients?
I have a chronic back ailment and have lost my insurance after 6 years of treatment , mostly with medicine and physical therapy. I moved home to Louisiana after losing my inurance and going thru a divorce, finding myself with less money, alot of pain ,no help with the bills and doctors telling me to go to a pain clinic . The ones i have talked to so far are either too expensive (600 monthly) or insurance only.

One place you could check is thru the city health dept to see if they offer a free health clinic that also offers Pain Management services.
Another place is to check with some of the Medical Schools close by to see if they might be of some help.
I have the link to a site that may be able to help you find more information. It’s the link to a group for those with chronic pain. If you would like the information on that group please e-mail or IM me off site any time with the subject link to Chronic Pain Group so that I will know what it’s in regards to.

Help Please!!! I Need To Summarize This Paragraph And Don’t Know How. ?
I need to summarize this paragraph and don’t know how. Just started school after 17 years of break and don’t remember ever summarizing any article. Never had to do any in bilingual classes. Please help!!
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that leads to the breakdown of the cartilage in joints. In people with osteoarthritis, exercise helps maintain good joint health, manage symptoms and prevent functional decline. But studies have shown that the benefits of a structured exercise program are short-lived. The beneficial effects usually fade soon after participation in the program ends. The occupational therapy program in this study was designed to educate osteoarthritis patients about joint protection, proper body mechanisms, activity pacing, and environmental barriers. The participants of the current study were divided into two groups. The first group participated in a structured exercise program and the occupational therapy program. The second group participated in the same exercise program, but received health education in place of the occupational therapy. Only the group that engaged in occupational therapy increased the intensity of
physical activity at the end of the study.
How Do I Know If A Career In Nursing Is Right For Me?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 23, 2010
I have been thinking about a career in nursing or physical therapy, but I’m not entirely certain whether or not I would be well suited for the job. I would prefer to be a teacher, but they just don’t get paid as much as they deserve. Serious answers only please.
Does Anyone Know About Radiology?
i’m thinking of applying to the arnot ogden medical center school of radiologic technology, and i’m not sure if radiology is a good field to get into. i’ve thought about physical therapy because i love working with people, only i don’t want to go to school for 6 years.
does anyone know if getting a certificate in this, and an associates in science would be a good path. the hospital asks that you work for them after you complete the program, so it sounds good to me. but i might want to continue my education after this program.
does this sound like a good pre-requisite for furthering my edu??
please help!

At What Point In You’re Life Did You “know” What You Wanted To Do For A Living?
It took me until this year to truly know. I am 22 and I had thought about various careers since around the age of 16. I always knew I did not want to work in a corporation and I have always wanted to do something public, non profit etc. I am a people person and I really did not want to work in cubicle in a corporation with my whole goal being to make the CEO even wealthier than he already is. I looked at Occupatonal and Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology but I always had a strong feeling towards schools. I was an elementary education major my first 3 semesters at Penn State but in January 2007 I changed over to Human Development and Family Studies with the aim of becoming a high school guidance counselor. This year it hit me right in the face that I want to be an Elementary School Counselor. I am interning right now and will earn my B.S. in HDFS in December and if everything goes to plan, I will be earning my M.Ed. in Elementary School Counseling in December 2011. And I absolutely love what I am doing at my internship. After being in 3 of the 9 majors and considering at least 6 of them on my small campus I have hit the mark. Did any of you have this much back and forth over what career line to pick and do you enjoy your choice or regret it?
Thanks,
Dave
Does Anyone Know Of Any Medical Or Financial Programs To Help With A Must Needed Back Surgery?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 11, 2010
I am a 43 year old female, single mother of a 12 year old son.I was diagnosed with FM, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Thyroid Disease, HighBlood Pressure,Mitral Valve Prolapsed, Depression,TMJ, and 2 bulged discs in my back.I have been fighting the discs in my back since 2000. I have been getting Cortisone SI Joint Injections and physical therapy as needed. I have no medical coverage. There is a “Christian Clinic” in a neighboring town that does help where they can with meds. But no further medical care.I had to visit the ER about a week ago because the pain was so severe and I had tremendous numbing in my left leg, back , buttocks, and foot. They gave me 3 shots and sent me home because our larger town 10 miles away, Mountain Home, Arkansas has no Neuro Physicians here. We would have to travel 120 miles North to Springfield, Missouri. But with no insurance and no employment or funding how does a person do that? Does anyone know of any programs that may help me? Sincerely, Gena
Should I Know Anything Before Volunteering In Physical Therapy?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 8, 2010
I am thinking about majoring in Physical Therapy because of what I’ve seen in research, it seems like a career for me. Before I really have my mind set on this profession, I want experience. But I want to know if I should have any knowledge before hand? Will I be interviewed? What kind of questions should I expect to be asked? How would a PT like to be approached by someone seeking help regarding experience?
