Should I pursue a career in physical therapy or Management Information Systems (computer study)?

Question by Marissa C: Should I pursue a career in physical therapy or Management Information Systems (computer study)?
Im going into my sophomore year of college and ive been taking a few business classes (for accounting) but now i feel like accounting could be very boring. I want a job i can wake up every morning and want to go to work and also have some money. I like working with computers and systems like databases and excel. however i feel like that could be stressful and boring after a while. Im also interested in physical therapy or sports and exercise science. Im just afraid of how tough the classes will be. and i want want to figure out in a couple years that its too tough for me to carry on my studies.

so do you have any suggestions? or questions i should be asking myself. Also if you have any information on the following careers i would love to hear more about it.

Im just feeling like i need to pick a major soon (im undeclared) because i dont want to feel like i am wasting my time at college. Please help!

Business is more or less a general degree now since you can go into pretty much most industry. However, without a specialized field, it’d be hard to land a job. I would suggest accounting or computer science. Computers are still hot even in this economy. Accounting can always land you a job. The more specialized you become, the easier to get a job. But it’d also be harder to change careers later.

Medical Records: Looking for info on the needs of information management in physical therapy?

Question by Disciple: Medical Records: Looking for info on the needs of information management in physical therapy?
I am a health information management student and I am writing a paper on a local physical therapy center. I’m looking for info about how records are kept/role of the health information manager. I’ve tried AHIMA and Googling but it’s hard to do a search on something this specific.

It really depends on the type of clinic. Small, privately owned clinics are likely to keep their own records and possibly still use paper documentation. Larger clinics might use e-doc, but be able to maintain it on their own or my source it out. Private clinics tend to keep one chart on a patient and re-open it if they return. Hospital based clinics are likely to use a series system…they have a chart open while the patient is in the clinic, but will discharge it and send it off to medical records (if on paper doc) to be scanned and archieved. Each time the patient comes in for a new problem, a new record is opened.

Are There Any Websites/books That Have Detailed Information On A Career In Physical Therapy?

I’m very interested in starting school next year, and have recently become intrigued with the idea of becoming a physical therapist. I’ve done some on line research, but nothing that I’ve been able to find has been really specific on the career. I want to be somewhat certain that this is a field that I want to pursue before I start the several years of college required. If there are any good websites, books, or other sources of information that might give me some insight on this field, it would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Information Re: Physical Therapy Education?

Hi, my husband is very interested in going back to school to become a physical therapist. We will be starting from scratch, meaning, he only has a high school education.
I am trying to find information online about what is required, costs, etc, but there are SO MANY websites with scattered information. I just really need some black-and-white “this is what it takes” info if there is any out there. Can anyone give me information or direct me to a website that can?
Also if anyone knows what kind of federal grants are available for someone furthering their education to this degree.
Thanks so much.
