Can You Help Me Get More Details On Having A Career In Therapy?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 28, 2010
i’m really interested in becoming an occupational therapist…not a physical therapist.
but are there other catergories that branch off that?
and what’s the difference between a social worker and a therapist, and which is the better route to take?
also, if i could get the annual earnings and educational requirments, that would be awesome.
i really want to do something involving psycological therapy, but i just need to some info to help me decide.
Help Please!!! I Need To Summarize This Paragraph And Don’t Know How. ?
I need to summarize this paragraph and don’t know how. Just started school after 17 years of break and don’t remember ever summarizing any article. Never had to do any in bilingual classes. Please help!!
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that leads to the breakdown of the cartilage in joints. In people with osteoarthritis, exercise helps maintain good joint health, manage symptoms and prevent functional decline. But studies have shown that the benefits of a structured exercise program are short-lived. The beneficial effects usually fade soon after participation in the program ends. The occupational therapy program in this study was designed to educate osteoarthritis patients about joint protection, proper body mechanisms, activity pacing, and environmental barriers. The participants of the current study were divided into two groups. The first group participated in a structured exercise program and the occupational therapy program. The second group participated in the same exercise program, but received health education in place of the occupational therapy. Only the group that engaged in occupational therapy increased the intensity of
physical activity at the end of the study.
Career/major Help?
Hi, I’m a freshman in college and I’m having a hard time picking a major/career path.. I know I’m at the begining of my education and everyone changes their minds alot, but I’d really like to try to sort things out now so I’m not wasting so much time and money (I don’t want loads of debt!!) I’m interested in a bunch of different things, especially languages. Fashion intrests me, but it seems too difficult, teaching sounds ok, but pays peanuts
and a medical career like dermatology or physical therapy sounds neat, but I don’t want to go to school for an extremely long time… If anyone has any ideas or advice about what to do/how to do/where to go to get an idea on what major/career would be best, or what careers there are in languages, fashion, teaching, or medical careers that don’t involve a PhD, I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks
Pell Grants Or Other Help To Go Back To School?
My 20 year old daughter is looking to go back to school to continue her education. I am hearing different things on the grants now available to return to college if you choose. She already has her massage therapy degree however that doesn’t seem like it’s a great field any longer. She is now looking into Physical therapy. Has anyone looked into any of these grants now available or have any insight as to where we can look to get the ball rolling. I told her to go to the school and talk to the financial advisor but I would also like to be educated on the different options before doing that. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I’m 3 Weeks Post-acl Tear(pre-op)…ortho Surgeon Is Uncertain..please Help?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 12, 2010
I tore my ACL on 1/24/2009 in a skiing accident. Since then, I’ve seen an orthopedic surgeon(supposedly one of Denver’s best) who had an MRI done, and advised me to spend 4-5 weeks pre-op in physical therapy 2x a week. My diagnosis is a ruptured ACL, and a grade 1 MCL sprain. I did three sessions in physical therapy before my next follow-up appointment with the ortho surgeon. I can’t fully extend my bad knee, and supposedly I am supposed to be able to. I have great flexion, no pain, only slight tenderness when firmly pressed where my MCL is located. The reason I cannot fully extend my bad knee is unknown at this point. Initially the doctor thought I had a bucket-handle meniscal tear, but after extensive review with myself and his colleagues – the MRI shows the meniscus as clean, and the doctor is fairly certain the meniscus is in good shape, based on the MRI and several different pokes/prods around my knee where I have no pain, and I would have if I had torn my meniscus. I’ve been in PT, doing several stretches at home / at the clinic, stationary bike 20 mins a day. Even did a real bike ride on Saturday for 2 hours. I have felt as if my knee has been improving every day since my accident.
After my follow-up appointment today with the surgeon, he’s totally uncertain as to what’s causing the blockage. He’s thrown out a couple scenario’s that he’s heard of(but never seen) that could be a 2-3% chance of why it’s blocking the full extension. All he told me today, was to stay in therapy, no more stationary or real bike, nothing rigorous, and follow up with him in two weeks. Throughout the course of my appointment today, the doctor in his uncertainty stated “you might want to get a second opinion.” That came as a complete shock to me because he’s supposed to be the best around. I don’t want to chance going to see another surgeon who’s eager to cut open the knee right away…and miss the chance of being under care with one of the “best.” I feel as if I’m being yanked around, and/or not getting the care I’m paying for here. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Any helpful advice/direction anyone can provide will be most helpful. I’m a very active individual, and just want the best care, and be able to get back to full health after surgery and a long and vigorous rehab regimen.
Does Anyone Know Of Any Medical Or Financial Programs To Help With A Must Needed Back Surgery?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 11, 2010
I am a 43 year old female, single mother of a 12 year old son.I was diagnosed with FM, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Thyroid Disease, HighBlood Pressure,Mitral Valve Prolapsed, Depression,TMJ, and 2 bulged discs in my back.I have been fighting the discs in my back since 2000. I have been getting Cortisone SI Joint Injections and physical therapy as needed. I have no medical coverage. There is a “Christian Clinic” in a neighboring town that does help where they can with meds. But no further medical care.I had to visit the ER about a week ago because the pain was so severe and I had tremendous numbing in my left leg, back , buttocks, and foot. They gave me 3 shots and sent me home because our larger town 10 miles away, Mountain Home, Arkansas has no Neuro Physicians here. We would have to travel 120 miles North to Springfield, Missouri. But with no insurance and no employment or funding how does a person do that? Does anyone know of any programs that may help me? Sincerely, Gena

I have chronic fatigue syndrome/ME/CFIDS.
There are other symptoms like low blood pressure, sleep difficulties, depression, but mainly I just feel SICK AND EXHAUSTED ALL THE TIME.
I have tried b12 shots, many different vitamins and supplements, excercise, ADD medication, anti-depressants, a wierd “energy healer,” physical therapy, stimulants, acupuncture, blood pressure meds, sleeping pills to sleep better, breathing machines, melatonin, anti-anxiety drugs, rest, and much more.
I’ve been to the cleveland clinic for diagnosis, therapists, psychiatrists, homeopaths, energy healers, alternative doctors, physical therapists, ent doctors, heart doctors, basically ANY kind of general doctor specializing in an area like the heart, lung, etc.

Parents Of Special Education / Autistic Child?? Help?
I’m going to tell you exactly what happened. Please help me figure this out.
August 24- I received a call from The Speech Patholgist from the school saying they wanted to test my 3 year old for Autism (I had requested it).
Aug 25- My husband took my daughter to the school and they did some testing (which I have no clue what test it was and my husband said they played with blocks, picked out colors, basic stuff) and they gave my husband a questionairre. He told me that evening that he couldn’t really see it and he didn’t understand some of the questions.
Aug 26- The Speech Path came to my classroom and gave me a questionairre and reviewed my husbands. I told her he really didn’t “get” most of it and couldn’t see some of the questions. OK, on the form I filled out, if she scored above an 85 she has Autism. Her score was a 150. I was immediately terrified and I asked the lady, “So, this means she’s got Autism???” And she said, “Yes.” She told me that we could have speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy in the home, home trainings, LOTS of resources and support.
Sept 4–My daughter had another test with the school Psychologist.
Sept 8–The school Psychologist pops into my classroom during my conference period and tells me that they need to complete the rest of the test on my daughter on Friday. I asked her the results of the testing so far and she didn’t know. I asked, “Did it show that she has Autism?” She said, “Well, yeah.” SOOOOOO….
YESTERDAY—I took off work and went with my husband to have the second part of the test. Here’s what happened. They did not have ANYTHING ready. I mean, if the test called for cut-out letters, they couldn’t find them. If they needed a cup, they had to stop the testing and find them. One part of the test called for some clothing, spoons, toothbrush and something else and they NEVER DID FIND THOSE THINGS, so I don’t even know how they could have scored it.
When they were done they told my husband and I that she is going to be categorized as Non-Categorical Early Childhood with a Suspicion of Autism and Speech Impairment. So, I was PI$$ED. I said, “But you told me she had Autism.” They they crawfished and backpedaled saying that they didn’t diagnose her and I said AGAIN that they had TOLD ME IT WAS AUTISM. Then they started talking about getting a diagnosis through a doctor. I was FLOORED. I bought 6 books THE DAY the woman told me it was Autism. I’ve been researching my **** off trying to figure out which services she needs. THEN they said that she would receive services at school. I’m confused. What happened from they time they said she had Autism to now? I don’t get it. Help please??????
