Serious College Athlete Been Out For A Year With Groin Pain, Just Want Answers!?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 12, 2010
My name is Taylor and im a college soccer player and i’ve been hurt with a groin problem since November 4th 2007. Recently ive been assigned by a doctor to go to physical therapy about a groin issue which no doctor can really find, ive been through 2 mri’s, ct, and xray. But with all exams negative and me sitting out of soccer for over a year i’ve researched over and over on the internet and ive done some self evaluating and seemed to locate the pain in my left adductor with pain in left testicle and left lower adomenal/scrotum. The pain all started when i was running hills and overexerted myself and ended up vomiting. The next day i had significant pain and could hardly sleep at nights cause of the dull aching pain.No doctor or surgeon seems to really listen to me really about what i have to say which is understandable after the extensive years of school they’ve been through. Once the injury happened i went to my school clinic and they immediately labeled me as having a sports hernia and sent me to surgeon and such, surgeons would just do the cough method on me and say i just have a strained groin and give it time. I believed them and gave it time and after about 7 straight months of resting just a “strained abdomimen” and still feeling the same pain while coughing, and sudden movements actually probably even worse since my groin seemed to be tighter because i hadn’t exercised, (besides the bike or olypitcal at low speed to stay in somewhat decent shape.)I decided to just start exercising running playing soccer every now and then, and i could feel my groin, the pain was there but once it got loose it felt okay but mid way through it’d start to get bad, especially after and was sensitive and sore for a couple days, but since the numberous doctors and surgeons turned my away i didn’t have much to lose. I eventually stopped cause i couldn’t take the aching pain, however it still has never went away even when im not exercising for an exenstive period of time.Anyhow i was assigned 4 weeks of therapy 3 days a week and i was told if my groin problem didn’t get any better from physical therapy (which it hasn’t, and im in my last week of therapy) then they are going to perform surgery where they are going to go in and just search for the problem and hope they find it and can fix it supposebly. Im a big sports fan so i’ve known about you from hearing about athletes needing sports hernia surgery. From what i noticed not many doctors believe in a sports hernia so they don’t even really give it any chance. Anyhow i thought i would send you an email and see what you had to say about it, it’s probably hard to make evaluations over the internet so i understand, sorry this is all crammed together and thank you for time, i just am interested in what you think about the situation. Coaches are frustrated with me, all i want to do is play soccer again.Thank you again.
If You Have Been Diagnosed With Degenerative Disk Disease, Please Tell Me How It Has Impacted Your Life…?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on February 1, 2010
I was diagnosed in my early 20s. It would bother me here and there but nothing too bad until recently. I just had to be careful not to over do it. But about a year ago I began having ALOT of pain. Walking, standing in line at stores, banks, whatever, became intollerable. I went to the Dr and was immediately put on state disability. After alot of meds, physical therapy (which didn’t help) and a visit to a pain clinic I have now been told I have lumbar and thorasic spondylosis, and I will be going for epideral injections. No one is telling me how this is going to impact my life or if I will be able to return to work. I am in constant pain. I would love to hear from others with this condition and to know how it has affected you and your lifestyle. Thanks in advance!
Pain Management – How Many Of You Have Been Called In For Pill Counts?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on January 31, 2010
I have been in pain mgmt for over 6 months and have yet to be called in (knock on wood). No, I do not take my meds as prescribed as somedays my pain is much worse. I had to go to the ER last week b/c I could not walk due to the pain in my upper back (severe scoliosis and disc disease). I called the clinic and they OK’d me to go as they have in the past. I had to miss my monthly Physical Therapy appointment with the clinic today b/c my car’s transmission went out, I have only missed one appointment since my treatment began. Will this raise the red flags, I wonder? I am currently on 20 mg Oxycontin per day but sometimes, I take up to 40 mg. They took me off Ultram, which was used for my breakthrough pain and gave me an extra 15 Oxys (I was dianosed with epilepsy and ultram lowers seizure treshold) and that has messed me up as ultram really helped with my pain.
So, how many of you have been called in for random pill counts? Please don’t flame me, thanks

Anyone Ever Been To A Pain Clinic?
Posted by admin in Careers in PT on January 24, 2010
am 24 year old who had a baby on the 25th of September. While in labor receiving my epidural I was stuck me about 6 times to try and make it work. Once I could feel my legs again and walk my back hurt severely. I has three kids 4, 15 months and almost 3 months and this pain has made it hard to do just about everything, giving baths, changing diapers, unloading the car, picking up my 15 month old. I am also a hairstylist and it hurts my back to be on my feet for long as well as bending over to perform shampoo and waxing services.Even driving hurts me. I also get a shooting pain that goes into my left butt cheek, and now most recently I am experiencing pretty bad foot pain also on the left side. My OB prescribed me percocet at my six week check up and it was for 20 of them, that lasted maybe a week. I was taking 2 pills every 4 hours to ease my pain. I began physical therapy for a month and I still had back sometimes even more after. I went to see my Ob to have a mirena inserted(sorry TMI)and told her physical therapy is doing nothing. She suggested a pain clinic and prescribed my more percocets, this time 30 which lasted me about a week and a half, again taking 2 at a time every 4 or 5 hours.Has anyone ever been to a pain clinic? Will they prescribe me a stronger form of pain medication?Any other ladies out there have back pain following an epidural from labor? I need some input. I hate calling to see if the doctor can call me in something because I almost feel like they are looking at me funny but I know with the pain I have I need more medication or the problem fixed! HELP PLEASE !
