Physical Therapy Assistant Observation Hours..?

I have recently learned about the career of Physical Therapy Assistant and am extremely interested in pursuing it. When researching colleges with the appropriate programs, I also just learned that observation hours are required. How do I go about finding places that will let me observe them in action? Advice from those who have experience in the field would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I Am 48 And Im Thinking About Becoming A Physical Therapy Assistant Can Anyone Tell Me More About This Career?

I am a PTA and enjoy it. You have to know what you’re getting in to if you want to be accepted into a PTA program. I strongly suggest doing some volunteer/observation in a PT clinic somewhere–maybe even 2 or 3 different ones to get a variety of patients/therpaists to observe. That is very likely an admission requirement anyway. It isn’t the highest paying job in the world by far but it is quite rewarding. You get more direct patient contact than do the Physical Therapists mainly because they have more paperwork and administrative work to do–but they also get paid more.

For Florida Residents Only: A Physical Therapy Assistant Or Dental Hygienist Career?

I have this big dilemma and I need your serious opinion … I am a CNA and I would like to take a higher step up in my career. Don’t get me wrong, I love CNA duties, I consider my profession to be a great privilege. But I have a herniated disk on my lower back, so I think I won’t last much longer in the CNA setting. I was looking into something still in the healthcare setting, I really enjoy people and taking care of them. I was thinking about PTA or Dental Hygienist. What do you think? I don’t have much money to pay tuition, and I don’t think I qualify for any grant. How long are these 2 courses? Where are the nearest courses to where I live (Lakeland)? I am a detailed-oriented person that’s why I was considering these 2 options. What are job prospects for both? Thank you so much for your contribution!

Physical Therapy Assistant (pta) .a Good Career?

I am working as a CNA right now in a nursing home and i absolutley hate it. The job has made me an angry impatient person at work. I was wondering if going to school to be a PTA would be a good decision. And does anyone know how much they roughly make an hour in michigan or in general? I want to work in an environment where I can help people without rushing and cutting corners to get things done.. And nursing is NOT my thing.. If there are any PTs or PTAs out there. Let me know about this career! Thanks.

Is Becoming A Physical Therapy Assistant A Good Career Choice?

I am trying to find out if going to school to become a PTA is a great career choice? I am looking for a bright and positive future with a career that is rewarding and pleasant. I am looking for something that pays very well with excellent health benefits and friendly people to work around. Can I find this working as a PTA? I am currently in school now to become one, and I just want some inside information if I am doing the right thing. Just how hard is it to get through everything to become a PTA? I have half of my classes completed now at my community college and plan to graduate in spring of 2010. If anyone can give me pointers and helpful advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Take care and god bless.

Distance Learning Offered For An Associate’s Degree As A Physical Therapist Assistant?

I am currently attending Tidewater Community College in Virginia. In about a year, I planned on applying for the Physical Therapy Assistant. It’s about 4 semesters long. However, none of the PTH classes are offered online and from past semesters it looks like the different courses that are required each semester seem to be only offered once per semester… So, if I take the classes in the outline that is required, my classes will be sporadic and I will absolutely have no time to continue my full-time work.
My question is,… are there any LEGIT universities which offer distance learning and Physical Therapy classes which would count towards the degree, online? I understand that towards the end of taking the required classes I will have to do clinicals, that is perfectly fine… however I am looking to see if there is a better option for me right now.
I attended ODU for one year, and TCC is much more suitable for me because it does offer many online classes, (just no PTH classes)… which is why I transferred (as a side note.)
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
And please do not mention Phoenix University… I personally know someone who was scammed through pursuing their education with this “company.”

Which Career Would Be Best Cosmetology Instructor Or Physical Therapy Assistant?

In order to get a job as a cosmetology instructor, one most likely needs a certain amount of experience in the field. It generally takes a couple of years after becoming licensed for a hairstylist to ‘get a book’ of regular customers as it is, just fyi :)
The PTA has to have a 2-year associate degree, have successfully completed a clinical fieldwork with an actual patient caseload and pass a licensure examination.
How about observing/job shadowing and/or volunteering in the various PT departments such as at the local hospital, nursing home/long-term care facility, physical rehab/traumatic brain injury (TBI) program, outpatient or such. The PT field may be both physically and mentally draining.
For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search ‘barbers and cosmetologists’, ‘physical therapist assistants’ or such.
One should make sure that whichever field and program that they’re interested in is accredited within the industry.
If considering the cosmetology program, please forgo those private $$ beauty/tech schools and instead opt for the more affordable county vo-tech school (or community college as long as the program is accredited within the field.
