What should I do for pain management?
Posted by admin in Clinic Management on May 19, 2012
Question by : What should I do for pain management?
I am 22 years old and have been dealing with severe pain in my neck and back for months. I’m not sure what the cause is. I have a very physically demanding job and and i’ve also been popping my neck and back for as long as i can remember. My neck also clicks during normal movement. The pain hit a point of unbearable so i finally went in to a small local clinic since I don’t have a primary care doctor. I was put on prednisone which didn’t help me any so they had me do a ct scan which came back clean so they sent me to physical therapy. I went in to P/T and they did a full evaluation of me and they said based upon their evaluation i they didnt even want to touch me and that i had serious issues going on and that I needed to get to an Ortho immediately. I’m having an MRI done tomorrow. But the soonest I could get an appointment with the ortho is a month out. I’m not sure what to do for pain management for at least the time being. I’m currently taking lortab 7.5/500 three times daily. Day to day my pain is about a nine and each pill brings the pain down to a seven and wears off within two hours. I’m just really confused on what to do. Are injections any good? Any other options and where should I go? Should I just go back to the small local clinic?

Question by wallabie22: physical therapy/medication?
I have had lower abdominal/groin pain and a funny feeling in my back for over a year now. I have had tons of tests all showing nothing wrong. I really believe this to be ibs which i was diagnosed with or a nerve issue in my back. my pain management specialist wants me to take elavil which i am nervous about becasue of the weight gain. I did get a referral for physical therapy. could physical therapy help this type of pain? I just want to get rid of the pain and not be cracked out on pain pills!

Physical therapy may be able to help. If all the x-rays/other tests have not shown anything, you may have a soft tissue injury (like muscles, ligaments, etc.) They will evaluate you and trest whatever they find. It is much better than having to be on multiple pain meds!

lawyer/legal/medical help!?

Question by Jessica: lawyer/legal/medical help!?
Ok so i need some advice. Its a complicated situation so i am sorry if it takes a while to explain, there are a lot of details.
Recently my apartments mailboxes have been getting broken into. apparently they gave out the master key to a resident who had lost their own key and that resident kept the master key and has been stealing peoples mail.
The apartment managers and owner were ordered by the post office to have all the mail held and the post office center. No one told ANY of the residents. There were no signs, no email, no phone call, nothing. I finally desided to go and ask the manager if they were holding my mail for some reason and they said “oh ya a bunch of mail was stolen so its been held for about a month and the post office.”
I have an insurance card that comes once a month and was not able to obtain it since i did not know my mail was being held. I thought it just hadnt come yet. Anyways i had to go to the doctor because i seriously injured my ankle. Since i didnt have my insurance card i had to go to a crappy hospital and pay out of pocket for the time being. I was also told that i need to go to physical therapy three times a week for four months starting immediately.
After hearing that i desided i need to go and check at the post office to get my insurance card. The post office said i had no mail. My mail had been held for almost a month and a half and i had NO MAIL? i was sent birthday money and my insurance card and school and legal documents. The post office said someone must have stolen them when the mail was still at the apartments.
I now have to wait a week to get my insurance card so i can start physical therapy.
Ok so here is my question: If my ankle gets worse and or had permanent damage, can the apartment complex be held responsible since it is there fault i could not get my insurance card in time and it was there fault the mail was stolen?
. Oh and they knew mail was stolen and did not report it to the residents.

How about calling a few lawyers who offer a free consultation and ask them what they think of the situation. You definitely have a right to get your mail and anyone who tampers with it (such as the theif(ves) who broke into the mailbox) has committed a federal offense. Hoping that you get some resolve.

Does anyone know of a good inpatient pain management program?
Posted by admin in Clinic Management on May 14, 2012
Question by Susan, too much pain, too long: Does anyone know of a good inpatient pain management program?
I had a botched back surgery 12 years ago. I have been seeing a pain management specialist for 10 years and I have an implanted pump with a catheter that delivers medication directly into my spine in the area of the nerves that are damaged. I have completely lost the ability to have a life and I know that I need physical therapy and physchological counseling but in the small town I live in they are not available and I can’t drive myself back and forth from the closest city. Any one know of a place in Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennesee, and other states close to these? These would be closest to home but I am willing to go anywhere necesssary. I need an inpatient program because I will be there alone. None of my family can rearrange things in order to be with me, but I need help now. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Good dog sport or activity for an American Pit Bull Terrier? also Ways to get the dog involved in community?
Posted by admin in Clinic Management on May 13, 2012
Question by Adopt a dog and save a life: Good dog sport or activity for an American Pit Bull Terrier? also Ways to get the dog involved in community?
My aunt has the sweetest American Pit Bull Terrier and when I was talking to her the other day she said her and her two friends with APBTs want to get their dogs in some sort of doggy sport of activity?
She also wants to find a way to get the dog out and about more in their community and show the true nature of this wonderful breed. They live in a small town where almost everyone knows each other.
Problem is there is a rumor that BSL is about to be proposed in her community, no grandfather clause. (only rumored at this point)
Now she feels the best way to fight it is to get out there with her dog and show her community what a great breed the American Pit Bull is.
Now her dog is very well trained and is therapy dog certified. Infact this dog goes in with her to the assisted living home she runs once a week to visit with residents. (this is acutally her therapy dog, she was in training (only a few weeks left to go)to become a therapy dog when she had her accident and this dog after training was complete became her therapy dog (by default). And it helped her recovery a lot, she had nearly 2 years of physical therapy after the accident. She had originally gotten this dog for her son who has disabilities, but she is very much her dog.
So to lose this dog would tear her apart.
Now remember this dog is no puppy, this dog is around 6 years old. But she would like to find a good sport/activity to get involved in with Sierra.
So any advice to help Sierra and her owner?
Ashley: My aunt feels weight pulling is very cruel.
She wants people to see they are just as wonderful as any other breed with the right family and the right training. So she wants the dog in something that all types of dogs do. (Not just APBTS)

Question by ♫Orion’s Mommy♫: What will my pain management doctor do next?
I’ve been to a pain management doctor for my scoliosis and the first visit he put me in a physical therapy program and gave me a script for some patches. The PT made my back worse if it did anything at all and the patches dont work. He said I was too young for pain killers but I need them badly. Whats the next step? if the pt and patches didnt work will he reconsider pain killers?

Ask him again in a very mature way, no pleading or whining.
Tell him he ought to give you a chance, and if necessary, you’ll even submit to random urine tests to prove you’re not going to abuse the medication. Tell him your quality of life is suffering, you’re no longer able to enjoy social activities or babysit or work at whatever part time job you have. Tell him your sleep is suffering. Tell him you’re simply willing to do whatever it takes – you’ll comply – for him to give you a chance. Say you deserve a chance.
I understand what you’re going through, sweetie. I have serious chronic pain myself – nerve damage from lupus – as well as several kidney infections every year from a complication of a birth defect I was born with. I’ve been battling with doctors for years over pain management issues. It makes me absolutely furious when I’ve been treated like nothing more than a drug seeker.
Unfortunately, for everyone of us genuine sufferers of chronic pain, there are a hundred people who fake pain and/or injure themselves to get pills, people who “doctor-hop” to get multiple prescriptions, and people who try to get prescriptions so they can sell the drugs on the street. These assholes have ruined it for people like us.
I had given up long ago to try asking for pain medication. Unfortunately, I started drinking too much to numb the pain, and overdosed daily on Tylenol (like 12-20 per day, and you know you don’t get high on Tylenol). I knew I was likely doing serious damage to my liver, but I didn’t care. I cared more about my quality of life (which means having less pain and not begging god to kill me every day) than I did about quantity of life. In other words, I would take 2 years of living with less pain over living many years with severe pain every day.
I finally ended up in the hospital with acute pancreatitis, and I told them the truth of what I had been doing. Finally they took me seriously, and did a rush order on getting me into the pain clinic at the hospital. Later, my family doctor apologised to me for not helping me better. He had given me a real bad attitude before.
So now I’m on good painkillers, and they are strictly controlled. I did the same things I advised you to say to your doctor. He was nervous, especially that I had now created a past with alcohol abuse (by the way, I don’t believe I’m an alcoholic, no matter what anyone says. But I don’t drink much now, anyway).
So anyway, I empathise. It is horrible being looked down on by condescending doctors. I have always wished that every doctor have to experience a day of the pain people like you and me suffer. They would quickly get the point.
good luck.

Can I sue for distress, punitive, and lawyer fees?
Posted by admin in Clinic Management on May 10, 2012
Question by : Can I sue for distress, punitive, and lawyer fees?
First off i Would like to say this is the first time I am posting on this forum site, so i hope that i get this right.
To get started I was injured at my job on Mon. feb 22, 2010. I was lifting a 70 lb. peice of metal and as I was picking it up I sneezed.(I know sneezed but it happened) It hurt like all hell laid on the ground for about half an our let my boss know, who by the way did NOT file an injury report, and woke up the next morning not able to roll out of bed. Then when I was finally able to reach for my phone,3 hours later, called the shop supervise, who is above my boss, and told him what happened asked if i should make a doctors appointment for go to a chiropractor that day so I could get a note. He told me to go the the chiropractor, so I did and it cost me $ 95 because they did not take insurance…. First mistake I guess… So, she told me that I tweaked my back and to take the rest of the week off. In the mean time I was talking with my parents and they told me to make an appointment with my doctor so I did for the following Tues. and used up all of my holiday pay for those couple of days. Then my doctor tells me that I have severe back spasms and a possible ruptured disc he per scribed me a tone of pills, 4 every 6 hours, but he also told me that I need to talk to the owner and tell him since I was injured at work I have 45 days to file a claim. I talked to the owner the next day on wed. and he told me to go to their doctor on thurs. That doctor told me the exact same thing that my doctor said and they told me to take a bunch more pills, another 4 every 6 hours. So, at one point I was taking upwards of 16 pills a day. So they told me to come back next thurs and I did, they gave me an ex ray and said you still have the severe back spasms and my need an MRI later. Then, my Workman’s comp insurance handler calls me takes my information and tells me that I can not go to their doctor anymore I have to go to another doctor that’s an hour away, verses 10 minutes and by the way they were both the exact same company centegra… ugh… I received a check from the insurance company from the 2/23/10-3/8/10. I continued to see their doctors and they keep telling me that I need physical therapy. Neither my nor the doctors have been able to get a hold of my case manager who never meet her commitment that she said on her voice mail, which was to contact me back by 3:30 the same day i left the messages. In the mean time I moved my motorcycle five feet so i could get my garbage cans out the door and it killed my back. I told my doctor this and she wrote it down and told me not to do it again. So we Finlay hear from Workmans comp that I could start physical therapy on, get this 4/10/2010. Over a month later. So, I have been doing that from now until last week when my Therapist told me that Workman’s comp denied my claim. I called them up and the case manager said that she dined it because if I was well enough to move my bike I was well enough to go back to work. both the therapists and THEIR doctor said that was bs. oh did i mention that I haven’t gotten any money since that first check!!!! I have just recently contacted a lawyer and he is working to get me what they owe me and so i can go back to therapy.
So, in all im broke behind on my rent, car, car insurance, bike insurance, phone bill, utility bills, credit cards, and over drawn on my savings account. I have no idea what my next step is and can I hit these guys so hard that they wont think about discontinuing someones claim before contacting anyone!!!!!!!
Forgot to mention a couple of things I had to drop my dental, short term disability and life insurance because I can not afford the $ 23 every 2 weeks and can not get them through my work again until next Jan.

I financed a car through HBC bank and have had a horrible experience and desperately need advice?
Posted by admin in Clinic Management on May 8, 2012
Question by : I financed a car through HBC bank and have had a horrible experience and desperately need advice?
I am feeling really trapped and need advice desperately. To begin with- I was in a car accident(not my fault) 3 months ago and the truck I was leasing from a private owner was totaled, I have since been thought 2 months of physical therapy and numerous doctor and chiropractic visits and have been on pain meds and muscle relaxers the whole time clouding my judgment. I also have poor credit, so I went to a local car dealership and purchased a car. The only choice I could use to finance the car was through HBC. I drove the car for 2 weeks before being called by the dealership(using deception to get me back in) and told that bank does not finance Suzuki’s at all because of resale value. They put me in another car for 2 more weeks and this times was denied because of the car having too many miles on it.(again I was misled in order to come into the dealership) I have now been driving my current car(which I hate, but was desperate for transportation to work) for 1 month and after putting down over a $ 1,000, I feel trapped. I am in over my head and am currently overdrawn at my bank, and the first payment is due this week. Is there any way out of all of this while still getting my down payment back?

Yes you can. They may give it to you or may not. If you have filed with them and you have the policy number and police report number, they should be happy to let you know. State to state is a little different in certain instances, but basically that information can be obtained under open records act. In most states, there are liability insurance requirements which cover cases such as yours. From the amount you posted about it, I would say you would get the information you are looking for by calling. Sure can’t hurt to call.

Can someone recommend a pain clinic or doctor in the Denver Area? Advice for severe pain?

Question by : Can someone recommend a pain clinic or doctor in the Denver Area? Advice for severe pain?
I’ve been suffering from back pain for a couple of years and it has become extremely intense in the past year. My husband lost his job so we lost our insurance, so I’ve been going to a clinic for the past year. Luckily, he found another job that he’s been working at for about 2 months now and our insurance is about to kick in. I was wondering if someone knows of a good doctor in Colorado. I’d really like to find someone who is caring and compassionate.
It started during my second pregnancy and went away a couple months after the birth of my son. Then it returned when I was pregnant with my 3rd child and got rapidly worst. After my daughter was born it just continued to get a lot worst. I had an MRI and was told I had Degenerative Disc Disease. I’ve been able to get a little physical therapy, unfortunately not a lot due to the lack of insurance. The pain has now spread to my hip. I don’t know if the pain in my hip is connected to the back pain or if it’s something completely different. But I’ve started having a hard time walking and try really hard not to leave the house because I’m so scared of having a pain attack out in public. I’m only 28 years old and have developed horrible depression from being in so much pain. I have kind of gotten used to the constant pain and have been able to manage it with pain meds, unfortunately the pain attacks are so intense I haven’t been able to get relief. I took percocet for the pain and then the doctor added extra oxycodone in addition because after 8 months I became tolerant, plus the pain increased. She recently suggested prescribing oxycontin but I’d prefer not to go that route. I’m hoping with insurance and physical therapy I can start getting relief and wean off the narcotics. I also take muscle relaxers and naproxen, plus anti-depressants. She also put me on Lyrica. I’m having some bad side affects but I’ve only been on it for a few days so I’m hoping they get more mild, I haven’t noticed a difference in the pain yet. I’ve also tried marijuana but didn’t really feel it helped me too much, maybe to be able to sleep at night. I’ve tried ice packs, hot baths, icy hot, tiger balm, ibuprofen, herbal teas, juicing, deep breathing, meditation. Flexeril completely knocks me out so I had to stop taking it.
I’d like to find a doctor who will help me get better control of the pain and give advice on what I can do other then just keep taking more pills. I’ve been doing yoga and stretching but I’m still having a lot of pain. I’d like a doctor who isn’t opposed to painkillers either. I’m hoping to find other ways to get pain control, but untill that happens I have a 3 year old, 2 year old, and 8 month old with a husband who works 75 hours a week and absolutely no one to help me. So I need to have some kind of pain management. I was told I’d never be completely pain free, but I just want to be able to take my kids to the park, and zoo, do normal housework and stop feeling like a complete failure as a wife and mother. It’s really hard for me, I used to play all these sports and run 8 miles a day, even completing marathons, now I can barely make it up the stairs without tears. So if you know of a good doctor, please let me know. Or if you have any advice, I would really appreciate it. Acupuncture, supplements, stretches, I will be grateful for any advice. Thank you!

Hi,
I know how you feel although I don’t have children, my spine was injured before I was able to have them. That knocked my dreams away permanently. I know how hard you can be on yourself, I’ve done it too, but that pain is real and as I’m sure you would agree you wouldn’t wish it on anyone and would do anything to be ‘normal’ again. So you have to stop thinking of yourself as a failure! You’re not doing yourself any favors by thinking that way.
I can’t help with any suggestions for a doctor since I don’t live in that area. What I will suggest is to go ahead and give the oxycontin a try. It gave me my life back (to a degree, I have really severe spine problems). I’ve been through 3 surgeries, 1 laminectomy, 1 spine fusion, and then the biggie, reconstructive surgery because my first surgeon horribly messed up my spine with the fusion. The surgery was over 8 hours and left me in critical condition in ICU for 4 days. A low dosage of the oxy could give you a great deal of relief and help to get you off of so many of the other medications. By taking Aleve, or Naproxen, on a daily basis you are hurting your liver and kidneys. Too much for them to filter on a regular basis. That’s why when you will be in long term pain they (doctors) prefer to put us on the pure stuff that won’t harm our organs. Stay on the antidepressant though, that will help with both the pain and the depression.
You could try more therapy, strengthen your core muscles to help take the burden off of your spine. Plus when you do find a good pain management doctor he should have even more ideas for you to try. I highly suggest you do NOT allow them to give you the steroid epidurals. You are of childbearing age and I had 4 of them. They had such severe side effects because of my gender and my still young age. I ended up having to see an Endocrinologist for all of the terrible things these did to me, plus they gave me no relief at all. Not many people ever get relief from these injections. You could also try deep tissue massage and acupuncture.
This is a hard life to deal with, I can’t lie. But eventually you will learn acceptance and learn to deal with what your new capabilities and limitations are. I can suggest a great support forum for you to join. The people on there are like you and I and have been through literally everything. It’s a great resource and a great place to get advice. Just type in ‘Spine Health’ and it should take you straight there, look to the left side and you should find a small column that is the actual forum. Try it, you may find it very helpful. They helped me get through my darkest days. Oh, and I still visit there every now and then, I go by ‘Cateyes’ on there too.
P.S. Someone on there may know of a good doctor in Denver!
