I work as an art therapist and I really love what I do. Helping people with mental disorders express themselves artistically is just great for me. I have gone through a lot and art therapy helped me a lot and now I am so happy to be able to help others, so maybe you can try to become an art therapist if you are interested. And I live in Montreal ( Canada ) and I earn 45 000 $ a year

Many require masters degrees, so check your local college's course catelogue to get an idea of education requirements. Google or Yahoo can get you to a salary index website (don't remember any right now) which will give you an idea on income. And, try going thru a job search engine to see what is the MQs, or try county gov job postings for social workers or occupational therapists. Maybe someone here can give you some idea, but for the most part, you have to do some reseach.

Occupational therapy is more like physical therapy than it is like being a social worker or a psychologist (a "therapist"). It requires at least a master's degree.
An occuaptional therapist, like a physical therapist, helps patients restore their physical function during daily tasks such as dressing, grooming, occupational tasks, etc.
A social worker is someone what can "wear many hats" and function either as a "counselor" or more as a social advocate (helping people navigate various social organizations) or as a "care manager" in a hospital setting. It all depends on what type of social work they practice or what certifications they have. While they can still earn a BS degree, most social workers have their master's degree.
A psychologist is what most people think of as a "therapist" or mental health counselor. Most psychologists now earn a PsyD (doctorate level degree).
It sounds like you are either interested in becoming a clinical social worker or a psychologist...not an OT
