I Am Currently Torn Between Careers In Massage Therapy Or Physical Therapy Assistant…any Thoughts?

I am currently going for classes in PTA but realize that massage could potentially be a better salary if I could find steady employment. I am not sure what the outlook is for Massage ,I know many are self employed. please help! :)

I think you said the key phrase…finding steady employment. A PTA is much more likely to find a stable environment for employment. The massage therapy field can be somewhat competitive for a client base. Even if you establish yourself as self employed and might make a good salary, think about the benefits your are loosing: 401k, disability, workman’s comp, and MEDICAL insurance. A private policy could cost you about $900 a month and be loaded with exemptions. …and forget about trying to insure an entire family.
However, what do you LIKE to do? If you really like to do just massage, you would be somewhat disappointed in becoming a PTA. In the field of PT, we certainly use massage, but on a very, very limited basis. You are much more likely to work on someone’s flexibility, ability to walk, balance, etc as a PTA.
So look in your hear as to what you’d actually like to do.

Which field has a greater propensity for advancement and further education/training?
Do you LOVE the field of Massage Therapy? I think that
would be a prerequisite. Have you checked on the Human Resource/Employment websites for job availability
forcasts for each occupation? Those sites should also
list prospective hourly wages. Here are a few websites:
    http://www.bls.gov/bls/blswage.htm
    http://www.salaries.com/index.htm
    Good luck
