Well I’m in my first year of college and the career of Physical Therapy interests me. I know its competitive but is it really as they say? Most careers are competitive. I don’t really like Science but when I think about it, I havent really taken much science courses in high school. What if I have all my pre requisites and God forbid I dont get in PT school? What should I major in?

It is competitive but definitely possible. Pre req include 1 year of bio, chem, physics and anatomy and physiology. Most schools require math potentially up through calculus and statistics. You will probably need statistics. Each school then has it quirks. There is a need for PT and schools are looking for students. Because of the DPT, not as many qualified students are applying as they are going into PA or med school. The salaries have not caught up with the degree. I believe they will.

You can major in almost anything you wish as long as you meet the prerequisites as Mary describes.
PT remains a competitive field, and although application rates dropped in the early ’00s, they have climbed once again. Most schools are receiving 5-10 qualified applicants for every available seat. This often means that 80-90% of applicants that have met all the program requirements are not accepted.
I’d at least consider a back up plan if you do not get into PT school. My plan was to apply to speech language pathology so I took a couple courses in communicative disorders before I got into PT school.
Good luck.
